Nadia comes into Locar's office aboard the station, noting curiously the several droids lined up along one side of it.
"Are these the droids you wanted my opinion on Locar? They are medical droids, wouldn't a medic be a better choice in helping you?"
"Not in this case I think, it needs a woman's touch. Which of those models do you prefer?"
Looking them over she notices they are all maternity droids, "Expecting a rash of pregnancies or something?" She says laughingly.
"Something like that," pausing realizing she hasn't figured it out yet. "War does funny things to all sentient beings. The need to procreate is nearly overwhelming in all races, that coupled with the freedom we have offered people we are about to experience a population boom is my guess."
"From what I've read this is one of the better models here," pointing out a heavily modified Merck model.
"Good, it's yours." As he turns back to the paperwork Toi has piled on his desk.
"What do you mean it's mine," her shocked expression disbelieving.
"I do have to ask when the wedding is don't I, or have you been blinded by everything going on around here dear. Your on light duty for the next nine months, I will not be risking the three of you. Tom will be back to full duty soon enough. He will be Captain Paris's wing-man until your done. Paris will have Angel Squadron in the meantime."
"What are you talking about I'm on light duty....." as it dawns on the young woman's face as she feels out to the Force within her. Nearly fainting she doesn't even realize Locar has moved beside her putting her down on the couch.
"Like I said, no buts about it, light duty. I will need your counsel anyways in the coming months."
Regaining some of her composure realizing she now laying down in the couch. "By the Force. I had no idea. I doubt you did until recently or you wouldn't have let me go on the last mission." Recalling what Locar just said about a wedding, Nadia continues. "The wedding, yes. Tom proposed when I went to see him aboard the medical frigate. I hadn't even told anyone yet." Remembering the ring. "You bought the ring for Tom, didn't you? There was no way he could afford it yet."
Smiling at the young woman seated on the couch, "Had I known before the battle, you wouldn't have been anywhere near the system. I would have left you in the Cluster."
"As to the wedding, the ring was quite easy to spot. And I never give money away you know that. I might lose badly in a friendly Sabaac game down in the pilot's quarters, but give credits away. Your off your rocker sister." As he moves back towards his desk.
"Tell me how you knew Locar," her eyes now studying the man she has known for so long.
"In the tallwhackerpit leaving Gresh, when I enter the Battle Meditation the first senses are those lives immediately around me. The count would be off because I knew Sid, Felishia and Leena were covered by the yaz. So when I felt the twins growing in the force, it nearly shocked me out of my meditation...."
"The gasp you gave, that's when...... wait twins?" Her face going white.
"Yes, at least as much as I can sense within you. I can't tell their sexes yet if your asking." His smile large as he takes delight in breaking the news to Nadia.
"I'm going to be a mother......"
"Yes you are dear. I would offer you a drink, but I think some milk would be better advised in your condition," his chuckle coming out at his own joke.
"Did you tell, Tom? Is that why he proposed?" Doubt creeping into the young Jedi's mind.
"No it isn't my duty to tell him anything. Though I do have one other duty perform."
"And what is that?" Her query hanging in the air wondering what other suprise will happen upon her today.
Sliding a small chest over onto the coffee table in front of her.
"What is this?"
"Well it belongs to Michael, but I figured as his Master you would want to control the amount of funds he has access too."
"How did he get this?"
"O he just won a bet, his father wrote in his name. When I checked the timing and the entry list he had won."
"Timing of what, Locar?" as she opens the chest revealing it full of credits. "How much is here?"
"About three hundred thousand, give or take a few."
"What in the world was the bet on?"
"Chef started a betting pool on what!?" The anger evident in her voice. "I hope he's pleased with himself. When I start getting the weird food cravings at all hours, I expect him to be on call." Laughing at Chef's misfortune, Locar shakes his head.
"Don't be so hard him. It kept the crew's moral up."
"Well, I'll make no promises." Her tone turning suddenly serious. "Did you ever think that maybe you let somethings slip pbutt? Before Tom came into my life, all you had to do was ask and I would have been yours. I want an honest answer to this one Locar, no witty retorts for this one time."
"Yes I know I could have. But it would have been distasterous for one of us. And you know my ways would not change. Beside I would have just corrupted you, Tom is a good man."
"Now get on out of here, Captain Paris and I have meeting to plan the bachelor party."
Standing back up, Nadia kisses Locar on the cheek. "You're sweet, Locar. I'm glad you're such a good friend. But we'll discuss the terms of this "light duty" in the near future. I won't be coddled."
Sensing that this is a discussion for another time, Locar nods his acceptance to another discussion as Nadia leaves his office. Stopping in the door way, Nadia turns and says. "Try to keep Tom's party to a dull roar. I don't want to hear about any sleazy activities." Continuing out the door, she shuts the door and strides up to Ensign Toi's desk. Nadia smiles warmly to her closest female friend.
"What can I do for you, Nadia?"
"Eleena, I've a personal request to make." Ensign Eleena Toi stops reviewing the datapad before her to give Nadia her full attention. Nadia takes a deep breath. "Tom asked me to marry him. I said yes." Nadia shows the Twi'lek the ring Tom gave her.
Locar's executive buttistant stands and hugs her best friend. "I'm so happy for you. Have you set a date yet?"
"No, not yet. I really need someone I can trust to help with arrangements. Will you be my maid of honor?"
"Yes, under one condition."
"Get me some help dealing with all the paperwork for the L.R.E."
"I think I know someone that can help with that. I'll bring her by to meet you and explain what the job entails."
Sitting in the in the kitchen with a warm cup of tea of the Saveron home, Nadia takes a sip of the tea as Kara, widow of Daveron, takes her seat.
"So what brings you here today, Nadia?" The concern in her voice believing that there may be a problem with her son, Micheal.
Sensing her concern, "It's alright, Kara. Micheal is an exemplary student." Seeing the woman's posture relax. "I've come with an offer of work. I know you've been bored here even though Daveron left you enough to have a good life with your children. Locar's buttistant, Ensign Toi has been looking for more help around the office due to increased paperwork. I figured you would be perfect for the job. Especially since I'll be planet side more, I'll be able look after Leanna and begin to develop her powers while you'll be at work."
"That sounds good. I have been going a little stir crazy here. Don't get me wrong, watching Lee is a full time job in itself but you're right. I feel I should be doing something to help support my family. I haven't been comfortable with having all the credits Dav left us. But you're not telling me something dear, why will you be planet side more?"
Nadia sighs briefly and looks down at the cup of tea, then back up to her host. "Can you keep a secret?" Seeing Kara nod, she continues, "I've just recently learned that I'm pregnant but I haven't told anyone yet. Tom's proposed to me but he doesn't know yet. I don't want it getting it back to him before I tell him."
"Well that explains why you'll be planet side more." Smiling, "Sure I'll keep it quiet till you officially announce it. I'm happy for you dear. Motherhood is a wonderful gift but it has it's challenges." She says looking at Lee playing in the adjacent room with her dolls. "So when will be a good time to start this job?"
"I can take you up tomorrow and I'll see about getting you a space transport for your personal use." Taking a final sip of the tea.
"That sounds like a plan." Standing, Kara takes the now empty cups and places them in the sink.
Standing as well, Nadia pulls out a credit stick, just as Kara turns back around from the sink. "One more thing Kara." Handing the credit stick to her.
"Oh Nadia, you know Dav left us enough to live off of, we don't need this." Says the confused attractive widow of Daveron.
"I know. But this is for Micheal. Apparently Daveron placed a bet in Micheal's name. As you can see, Micheal won just over three hundred thousand credits."
"Do I want to know what the bet was?" Taking credit stick.
"Let's just say, I wish I hadn't learned what it was about. Either way, the credits are his when you deem fit to give them to him. I didn't feel a young man just shy of thirteen should have access to those kind of funds. It might make a good gift when he is Knighted though, in several years." Smiling, Kara nods.
"Are these the droids you wanted my opinion on Locar? They are medical droids, wouldn't a medic be a better choice in helping you?"
"Not in this case I think, it needs a woman's touch. Which of those models do you prefer?"
