After dinner and some dancing, our Party, the Viscount and his advisors retired to the reading room. We gave him a synopsis of our quick purview of the intelligence gathered, and then, as a group, started to wade through to see what we had. What was immediately recognizable was a list of names, not just from the city, but from inside the palace. Three names stood out, and we decided to quickly gather what we could from the three to expand our knowledge of any immediate threat and the enemy’s hold on the city. The three were a maid, a stable boy and a servant. The maid was right next door and the stable boy was easy to find. We interrogated the two and found they had no real knowledge and posed no real threat and seemed only to be listed as possible recruits. But they, especially the stable boy, did point us to the servant as a possible active servant of the enemy, but he was nowhere to be found at the moment. We all decided to retire to Godwin’s to rest safely so we can get an early start on our return to the Main Temple.
Early the next morning, as we started to prepare for the day, Amora suggested that with some of the new intelligence that we found, that hinted at the last temple, the Air Temple, as being in Verbonc itself, that we should maybe spend a few days following that lead and cutting the head of that snake first. Leno countered and wanted to return to the Main Temple to deal with the most pressing issue of the skull and the gems. Amora added that it seems the enemy knows our movements and intentions too well, and if the Air Temple is here in the city, that they could be communicating back to the Main Temple from the Air Temple here in the city. Gathering intel under our noses. Sklaren also added that they are expecting us to return to the Main Temple, and will be ready for us. This detour could just throw them off enough to give us an advantage, with the added benefit of finally taking out the last Temple. All agreed on this change of plans. The magic users decided to memorize a good bit of Divination spells and all headed back to the reading room to continue the search for the Air Temple.
On returning to the palace, it was learned that the servant still has not been found. Amora suggested that Furnok wait in his room and so when he does return, we can grab him. We place a guard at the end of the hall to notify the rest of the group when he does return. Furnok easily entered his room, relocks the door, activates his ring of invisibility and waits. It is not long before boredom sets in a Furnok starts a careful search of the room, being extra careful to leave things as they were. After an hour of searching, he finds a loose floor tile. Lifting it up shows a secret compartment with a ledger inside. It seems tied and would be too difficult to replace without notice, so Furnok just make a mental note of it and replaces it. Finally remembering his Ring of X-Ray, he dons that ring and again searches the room. This time also finding a secret compartment in the bed post, full of coins; and not just servant’s coins, but Gold and Platinum!
Finally the servant returns and Furnok is ready to pounce, but Furnok waits to sees what he does. The servant goes to his secret compartment under the floor tile, grabs the ledger and makes to leave. Furnok figures that if he is taking his secret ledger, then he is probably going to meet his contact, which could put us one step closer to the Air Temple. The Servant leaves and relocks the door. Furnok, with his Ring of X-ray, sees which way the servant turns to go, waits till the coast is clear, leaves the room and rushes to catch up to the servant so as not to lose him. Furnok leaves the servant’s room door open when he leaves to let the rest of the party know that there has been a change of plans.
The guard, as instructed, goes to the reading room when the servant returns, to notify the party. The guard leads them back to his room to find the door open and the servant and Furnok gone.
